Firsts.....

So here are some of Sarah's "Firsts"....

First Diaper Change: Completed my Grandma Sandy...and it was a poop one at that. Funny thing is, it's been a while since Grandma had changed a diaper and it ended up being on backwards! Ha! It was a long day...Grandma fixed it and all was good!

First time Uncle Jeff has held a new born baby! I had no idea, but apparently when you are the youngest in a family, you don't really do much baby holding!

First day home! Fritz is doing....well let's just say we are all adjusting to a baby in our house. He is getting better every day. And has learned to keep his distance. There is hope for him! (Side note...the goggles on Andy's head are from work he was doing out side, not from the operating room)

Sarah's first bath at home....

Sarah's first "play date". Abigail is the daughter of our friends Eric and Nicole...she is four months old.

Abby kept grunting and trying to scoot to Sarah and Sarah just watched her...it was too cute!! We kept saying "alright kids, settle down...I don't think we can keep up with the two of you"And this is the first of many "Firsts" post to come!

Sarah's Birthday 3-19-10

Sorry it's taken so long to get a update on the blog...(I almost fell into the Chrisie slump! HA!)

So here is Sarah's "labor day" story....

Friday (March 19th) morning at 12:30am Andy and I checked into the hospital for me to be induced due to my high blood pressure....one day short of my due date. Around 1:30, the

Pitocin was started...when I went in to the hospital, I was at 1 and 1/2 cm dilated. So with some medical help, I began to have contractions. They were mild and mostly felt in my back. By the time the doctor came to see me, I had progressed to 3 cm and the contractions were much more intense thus causing me to go for the epidural...and then my doctor broke my water. Long story short, from that point on, I did not progress and Sarah would not put her little head down in the birth canal. So at 3 pm, after a very long emotional day, we decided to go for the c-section for delivery. My lovely assistants....

Wow! Epidurals are an amazing little drug!! I was numb from my chest down and didn't feel a thing...so numb that I was becoming more and more aggravated with not being able to feel my body and completely upset with the loss of control that I had!! So once I had realized that Sarah was "out", I was ready to get the show on the road. Andy says that I aggressively told my doctor "SERIOUSLY?!?! HOW MUCH LONGER IS THIS GOING TO TAKE!?!?!" And then my doctor peeped over the "curtain" and politely said " I am trying to put you back together" and that was all she wrote for me...I fell asleep as they "put me back together"

Andy was great in the operating room!! He kept his head down next to mine the whole time as to make sure he didn't get a glimpse of blood of any sorts and tried to keep me calm. The nurses were so worried that he was going to faint, that they kept asking him "Dad, are you ok?" they even noticed that he was beginning to sweat a little and so they brought him over a wet cloth...he was hot from the big surgical lights and then the "doctor" apparel he had to put on over his long pants and shirt. I heard one nurse say, "He's a big dad, we can't pick him up if he falls!" I was beginning to wonder who the patients was!!! So while I am on the table with no feeling what so ever in my body, my mouth has become crazy DRY...I mean like desert dry!! So I keep telling Andy and anyone that would listen, that I had this horrible dry mouth and they basically said nothing could be done at the time...so when Andy got his wet cloth, they told him to put it on my lips for a minute, well the thought of this moisture had me sticking my tongue out trying to lick the cloth...did I mention I was on lots of drugs!!!!

Proud Daddy!!!Proud, but doped up momma!!! They kept telling me to hold my baby, all I could think was....REALLY?!!? I can't even feel my arms!!! So the nurse had to help me!Sarah's first meal....funny story here. So I know everything you read says that if you are going to breastfeed, then you really need to be the first one to feed your baby and you should hold your baby ASAP so you can bond and blah, blah, blah! (I swear men write these books and I promise you that they've never come close to what it feels like to give birth...I digress) Anyway, so due to the c-section, Sarah had to go to the nursery to get cleaned up while I was in recovery. So I am in recovery freezing and shaking like a leaf - apparently a side effect of the epidural- and this nurse walks in and says..."Mrs. Jacobsen, baby is in the nursery and is showing signs of hunger, do you want to nurse her or have us give her a bottle for now?" AGAIN.....SERIOUSLY!?!?! I don't even know where my breasts are at this point!!! So I said..."Yeah, you go ahead and feed her." Then I sit in recovery with guilt -from those stupid books- wondering if I will ever be able to feed my child because I couldn't feel my body enough for her first feeding!!! Would she be scared for life because I didn't hold her right away? Well, no need to worry, she's eating just fine and hasn't had a problem figuring out where to get her groceries! Stupid books!!

Andy and I were very fourtunate to have three very special people with us during Sarah's birth...her Grandparents!

Grandma Sandy....Thank you so much mom for being there with us in the delivery room and for all of her help on the day she was born and the days following in the hospital. We truly appreciate your love and support!!

Grammy and Poppa- It was so awesome to have you both here for Sarah's arrival and we are so blessed to have been able to have you stay with us for a week. Thank you so much for all of your help around the house during that week!! Your love and support was greatly appreciated!!

39 week Check Up

Well, we've got news to report: Due to my high blood pressure today, we will be inducing on Friday!!! OMG!! It's really going to happen!! Andy and I are still trying to digest this whole thing...I mean you would think after 39 weeks we wouldn't need much time to grasp this idea...but man...what a huge concept to wrap you mind around...PARENTS...US!!!

We also had a sonogram today and Sarah is doing wonderfully! Our sonogram tech even gave us a sneak peek of Sarah in 4D (we didn't pay the 150 bucks for this to be done like we could have, but this was just perfect and was free!) So here is the last time we will see our little girl in the womb! Look at those cheeks!!!

38 week Check Up

Well no real "new" news to report....still at 1.5 cm, Sarah's heartbeat is still going strong at 145-150 and I am still gaining weight! Sounds like a re-run huh? But all is well and that is good news...I'll take that any day over bad news!

So "The Plan" go back next week (Tuesday) have another sonogram to check on Sarah's size and fluids and then I guess just wait. Depending on how things are, we can induce or just keep waiting it out. At this point, I am not completely miserable, so I am ok with nature taking it's course. But who knows?!?! My doctor is great about letting me make the decisions on all of this stuff, and will only step in for medical reasons, or if I get to week 41 (oh heaven help me if I go to week 41!). Only problem...I have no idea what to do!!!

In other news, last weekend was gorgeous here (as I saw on many of your blogs - it was perfect weather where you were as well :) So Andy did some yard work and I went to have my toes painted and eyebrows tamed....and for lunch:

Due to the high price of boiled crawfish right now (as a result of all the cold weather), we only got six pounds....but man were they a good six pounds. Yes, the REAL coke is mine!! (I splurged...I had to make myself feel better while Andy had his tasty beverage....ohhhh tasty beverage, only a few more weeks until I taste your sweetness once again!) Sorry about that...anyway, the crawfish were wonderful, however:

They turned my feet and toes into little or should I say large links of boudin (aka sausages). I really thought I was about to come out of my casing!! Note to self: Don't eat boiled crawfish at 38 weeks pregnant!! Thank goodness we only got a few pounds...any one who has sat down with me at a spread of crawfish knows I can't get up until they are all gone!!

37 week Check Up

Today we had our ultrasound to see how big our little girl has become...today she was estimated at 7 pounds 8 ounces....ahhhhhh, I feel like I can breathe with that weight. I just had a fear that she would already be at nine or ten pounds, but at this weight and give or take another pound or so for the next two weeks, this is do-able!

Everything else was fine...she has plenty of fluid and is very active. She kept putting her hand in front of her face trying to be all diva-like, but we did get a pretty good look at her...she's got some chubby little cheeks!!

Monday, we went to the hospital and took the tour. Andy and I felt much better after we left, just knowing the basics of the hospital and what all we have to look forward to...it took some of the anxiety out of the actual labor day.

So all we do now is wait! Everything is ready to go...we are just waiting on our little one to decide when she is ready. My last day at school will be the 15th, so we are just hoping to get to the 15th!

I tried to YOU TUBE a video of the ultrasound...I somehow got the January ultrasound on there too, but if you just go to the 2:35 mark, you can see today's ultrasound.
