School Days

Sarah comes to my room every day after school.  She loves seeing mommy's students albeit 5 minutes before they all leave.  And then after school, she snacks, we get homework done and I usually try to find something to keep her occupied while I try to get some work done.  I think we might finally be getting a little routine down and Sarah is realizing that I have lots of work that has to get done after school.

All of this extra time we have together now has allowed me to capture these sweet moments.

Sarah drew this picture of our family for me to look at while I am work in case I miss them. :)

Found this little note on my board one morning.

Sarah has LOVED the few time the girls have stopped by in the afternoon to say hi.  Today, they were able to motivate her to get her homework done before we left.  Something she was butting heads with me about!

LSU @ Syracuse

 Our game day cheerleaders!
Tigers get a win over Syracuse.  Leah was really into cheering on the Tigers today.  I think she may have managed to say LSU and Tigers.  Raising them right! :)

LSU v Auburn

Sarah loving the extra time with Uncle Jeff as we went to set out the tents Friday night before the game to reserve our tailgate spot.
Y'all! Today is suppose to be CrAzY hot!! The news has talked about it all week.   This would be the hottest game ever played, drink lots of water, etc.  Even Les Miles was concerned about everyone getting hydrated down to the "cellular level" HA!  2:30 game in South Louisiana in September...yep, it's gonna be bad!  But we are ready to make the best of it!  The Gibby's are in town for their first LSU game day experience and we aren't letting the heat stop us!
And here we are.  Found a nice patch of grass and a little shade so we are good to go!

Yippee!!!

Gibby vs Jenga....

Jenga wins! ha!

Gibby and Tallboy!

Birthday Boy!  Happy Birthday Jeff!! We miss you Mike!!! (I should have "made" him eat two...one for you :)

Oh Gus...at it again!

We love our Saturdays together!!

This Guy!

Tailgate fun!!!!!

Gibby's and Tallboys and LSU Football...pretty good trio!

OMG! It's HOT y'all!!
Ok, so the heat was no joke!! You could feel yourself melting from the direct sun.  There was really very little relief.  But when a small cloud would pass, you could here cheers from the crowd.  At one point Mel and I went down to use the restroom and then get a frozen lemonade.  For the first time I can ever remember, there was no line for the women's restroom and the line for concessions (water mostly) was as long as you could see.  On the bright side, I felt that I did a good job hydrating if I had to go to the bathroom. Haha!

While we were in line for concessions, the saw three people being treated for heat.  The concourse was lined with people just sitting and trying to get out of the sun.   It was like nothing I'd even seen!!  We saw one man being carted out on a food cart of all things!! I guess they ran out of wheel chairs.  It was hot!!!!!!
Temperature reading on the field!!  (photo credit to Mr. David Normand DS news)
We made it until the first LSU score of the 4th quarter and then headed home.  Once we finally stopped sweating you could feel the salt on our skin from all of the sweat of the day.  Again, it was crazy!!  And in all of this, TIGERS WIN!!! Beat Auburn 21-45!!

The kids had a great time while we were gone playing.  I got us two babysitters. Ms Tiffany agreed to babysit one last time for this occassion and I was SO thankful!! And Katie was also there.  They of course were both awesome and survived the very long day!!

The kids love the neighbors cat and he loves them.  Fritz however, is not a fan!
The Gibby's came in town Friday night and will be leaving tomorrow.  It was a short but fun weekend!!

Teeth!

Nope! Not Leah... but Sarah comes home from school today and tells me that she thinks she "has a tooth or something in the back of her mouth"  Uh? What? I try to not feed to much into her "aches and pains" But she went on about how she could feel it with her tongue, etc.  I check it out and sure enough!  There is a tooth coming in...Wait??  I thought we were done with teeth?? Is this normal? I take a pic and send it to Michelle, who I am sure got a kick out of it.  But yes, in fact this is normal.  It's called her Six Year Molars!! DUH!!! Michelle tells me to check for loose teeth....Yep! Two loose teeth, on the bottom though.  Andy and I get real excited because Sarah has been asking us non stop when she would loose a tooth.  We just kept tell her that her dentist said sometime between five and six.  So we thought she'd be excited...nope! In her own words "Stop talking about it....you're freaking me out!" Ha! ok then.  She finally calmed down and started asking some questions about the whole process and I think she may understand a little better.  She's still not real excited about the whole idea...so can't wait to see how this all plays out! haha!

Photo Drop Friday - Showin' Leah some Love!

The look I get when I tell her to put up the iPad.  "you're kidding right mom?"  "what iPad? I don't have an iPad."

Yep! Still missing me while she's at school. :)

A picture with Leah almost by ourselves...I'll take it!

This girl loves babies!!!  Such a sweet caring heart!

Friday Night Lights

Yeah, this was the best one.

Sitting in the end zone at the field house is one of those small perks we get as teachers.  At least I like to think that sitting there is a perk.  It's worked for us for a long time and now with the girls it's even better! Sarah is finally at the point where she will go off and play with all the big girls.  It also helps that she now knows these girls better, since they all go to Northside...teacher's kids. ;)  Not sure what game is being played here, but Sarah is in her element as it looks like she's in charge.  Another fun Friday night at Yellow Jacket Stadium!

DSHS Football

Season opener for our DSHS Yellow Jackets tonight who play the East Ascension Spartans!!  The Jacobsen's are ready for some football!!

Le-Le refusing to smile for momma!

Sarah and I working hard with our "big cheese" to get Leah to smile...she just thinks we are crazy!

Star Student brought "Rainbow Fish" to the game.
Jackets win!

LSU vs McNeese St.

WOOHOO!! The most wonderful time of the year!!!  With today's home opener being an instate non conference game, and the fact that we aren't real sure how our new tailgating possibilities will play out due to the construction, we opted for a late lunch by campus and then small chair and tent kind of tailgate.   Jeff left earlier in the morning to go ride his bike along the levee.  We met up with him when we got to campus and invited him to join us and grab some cool AC!  It was of course a hot south Louisiana day in September!

Getting our bellies full at Marty Js.

Bye-bye "CEBA" parking lot.  :(

Moved across the street and set up tent and chairs.  Jeff and I left to go get his stuff out of his car and when we return, we find Andy in conversation with Mr. David.  Our first meeting with Mr. David, and we find out he lives in Watson and is looking to tailgate.  We all shared stories of where and how things have changed over the years.  He obviously had more stories and we did.  We exchanged information and that was it...rest of the day was a blast!

A very happy trio!!
In all of the confusion of the new parking situation. We turn around and find the Huffstetlers!! They now have a parking pass in our lot as well. We were of course super excited about this news and have already started planning for the making of great tailgating on Saturdays!
Jack...all in on this hot afternoon!!

Yippee!!!  *** So Sarah always looks at my pictures when I get home.  She see Jack in this picture and says "HEY! What is Jack doing there??? I'm older than he is!! And I can't go until I'm TEN!"  Best I could do: "Guess Ms Olivia had an extra ticket."  As you can tell, we've had this talk many times...You can't go until you are ten! She may be catching on to the fact that this isn't an LSU rule.

Louisiana Saturday Night!

LOOK!! It's Mike the Tiger!! This is his first appearance since.....FOREVER!  well at least a couple of years.

Drum Major Daniel Wendt...DSHS Alum!! And Kelly is in there somewhere.
So....Funny story.  The game gets started and after the first offensive series by LSU Andy and I head to the concourse to go to the restroom and grab something to eat.  We come back and sit down with our waters and snacks.  Andy looks at the empty field and says, "Where'd everyone go?"  Jeff looks at us and say..."Rain delay" HUH?
Looks good to me?!

Guess I'll take this time to go find Kelly!!  Super happy for this kiddo!

Ohhhh! Well hello dark sky! Ok, then!
The delay of course at the beginning of the game was for lightning being too close to the stadium.  In this day of smartphones, just about everyone in the stadium was trying to check the weather and I don't think many were successful.  I know we weren't.  A single delay lasts about 30 minutes.  After the second delay, many fans started to clear out of the stadium.  We were then able to check the weather ap and see that it was about to get ugly!  Radar pictures, a third delay and now a change in wind direction and a sudden drop in temps, Andy and I were ready to head out of Tiger Stadium!!! Jeff...the trooper that he is was determined to wait it out!

As Andy and I left the stadium, the bottom fell out of the sky!  I had on flip flops...not the best "run in the rain" kind of shoe.  I eventually just gave up and walked.  The sideways rain and wind were both beating down on us.  We finally made it back to the truck and it slacked off.  We were drenched!! We got a good laugh out of it though.

We got home, got the baby sitter home (Katie Carroll's first game to babysit! :) and were about to get in bed when Jeff sent us a text that they had called the game.   It was the first time ever that LSU had to cancel a game due to weather!!! I think the total play count for the game was somewhere around ten!  There will be stories told about this game for many years to come I am sure!
